COLUMBUS — The Buckeyes are in Seattle after flying out after practice Thursday. Kickoff, as you know, is 3:30 eastern Saturday on CBS, with Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson the call.
Ohio State is 9-3 all-time against Washington, and 4-2 in Seattle.
The showdowns started with pairs of home-and-home matchups in 1957-58 and 1965-66. They continued to check in with each other every decade or so after that.
Earle Bruce’s Buckeyes lost at Washington to Don James’ Huskies 40-7 in 1986 (that was the week after opening with a neutral site loss to Alabama) before finishing 10-3.
John Cooper’s Buckeyes lost 25-16 in Seattle in Week 2 of 1994 on the way to a 9-4 season.
Jim Tressel’s Buckeyes won 33-14 in Week 3 in 2007 in a season that ended in the national title game.
Washington is really leaning into the crowd angle, trying to maximize the home-field advantage. Here are the three latest videos posted on the Washington football Instagram account.
A rallying cry for Washington fans. It’s narrated by their radio play-by-play guy, Tony Castricone, a Columbus native who worked in radio in Columbus from 2005 to 2010. Great guy.
What they call their Purple Reign game trailer, which kicks off with Adam King and Tyvis Powell in a Columbus TV clip from Channel 10.
A scene setter that begins with a John Cooper quote calling Husky Stadium the loudest stadium he’s ever been in.
We’ll be doing a live watchalong during Saturday’s game on YouTube, if you’d like to drop in.
Here’s everything we did this week, on Substack and elsewhere, to get ready for this first Big Ten game of the season for the No. 1 Buckeyes. (The links to Apple podcast episodes weren’t working, so they aren’t included as they normally are. But all the podcasts are up and functioning on Apple and everywhere else).
