COLUMBUS — Ten thoughts on the Ohio State Buckeyes and college football.
Wednesday’s post-practice quick interview with Ryan Day was a good session for football and feelings. I, of course, will start with the feelings.
You can feel Day trying to pull something out of this team. We’ve talked a lot about his challenging of players, because he’s done it more publicly than I can remember at any time in his tenure. I’d chalk that up to Day being comfortable in his own skin as a head coach in Year 8 (you can do more of this if you have a ring and a current win over Michigan, and 2026 is the first season both of those things have been true). Also, this group of transfers, young players and homegrown talent needs it.
He did it with Bo Jackson early. He did it with Julian Sayin. He’s doing it with freshmen Legend Bey and Khary Wilder while explaining that talent alone doesn’t get you on the field. He’s doing it with the position coaches of those players he wants more from. He’s doing it with his specialists and with special teams coach Robby Discher.
