How often have you been truly jealous of another college football program? Penn State feels like it's there with Ohio State
You can feel the connected exuberance of Ohio State football right now
COLUMBUS — Penn State freshman and Warren, Ohio, native Chaz Coleman walked off the field at Ohio Stadium after the Buckeyes beat the Nittany Lions 38-14 on Saturday, and I had to wonder what was going through the mind of the freshman defensive end.
Coleman, who wasn’t offered out of high school by the Buckeyes, topped Bill’s list of possible portal targets for Ohio State from the rosters of fired coaches. It’s not a difficult leap to make. He’s an Ohio kid having a tremendous season — his pass rush win rate is second in the Big Ten, just ahead of Arvell Reese. If you’re looking for a player to provide that Reese level of pass rush menace for Ohio State in 2026, Coleman might be your guy.
It seems like everyone is thinking along these lines. Here’s a Twitter screenshot from our friend Adam King of 10TV in Columbus commenting on a video of Coleman walking off the field. He said there’s been some social media chatter about the Ohio State usher that Coleman stopped to talk to. I didn’t find a ton of it, but there might be a few randos speculating if Ohio State was tampering with Coleman to plant a portal seed.
You’ll also notice your friendly neighborhood Substack reporter to the side, looking splendid in orange and observing the scene.
