COLUMBUS — The young Ohio State fan, screaming in a state of pure football euphoria, was all of us. Jeremiah Smith was right there, and his voice told the story — he couldn’t believe it.
“Oh my God,” the young fan shouted over and over again on Saturday afternoon as Smith signed a helmet for him. It should make a nice keepsake, maybe wind up on an end table for a few decades. (If you see it on eBay, let me know and I’ll delete this part.)
It wasn’t just a few lucky kids hanging over the rails of the stands in the Shoe as Smith worked his way from the field to the locker room after Ohio State’s 42-19 win over Illinois. Everyone in Ohio Stadium and across Buckeye Nation has an autograph from Smith.
He has signed this season.
