Ohio State Mailbag: Will teams start scheming for Carnell Tate? Who can hang with OSU?

COLUMBUS — We had some leftover questions from last week’s Sunday Soundoff show following the Penn State game that we didn’t want to leave unaddressed, so here comes another mailbag.
Let’s get to the questions.
Are we at a point where teams are no longer scheming to ONLY take away Jeremiah Smith’s big play ability, but they must give the same attention to Carnell Tate as well? — DSpencer
You’d think. Tate is the best deep ball receiver in college football. On throws of 30 air yards or more, Tate is No. 2 in the FBS with eight receptions, No. 3 in yards with 356, and tied for first in touchdowns with five. He’s fifth in yards per route run with 39.6.
All of that while ranking No. 22 in actual targets, with only nine.
Maybe Ohio State doesn’t throw it deep to Tate enough?
