COLUMBUS — Ten thoughts on Ohio State football, national college football and beyond.

1. Ohio State claimed a title last week that I’m not sure the Buckeyes have ever won before.

As calculated by NCAA.com, Ohio State had more players make NFL rosters after the initial cutdown to the 53-man limit than any other school.

Bama has been tracked down.

The NCAA website had the Buckeyes at 58, followed by Alabama at 57, Georgia at 53, LSU with 44, Texas at 42, Notre Dame at 40 and Michigan at 39. I went back to some recent years and the Buckeyes didn’t lead in NFL players then.

Last year it was Alabama 62, with Ohio State and Georgia at 57.

In 2024, it was Alabama 61 and Ohio State second at 51.

In 2023, it was Alabama 57 and Ohio State 47.

So this isn’t just a fade by Saban-less Bama. It’s an acceleration by Ohio State into the preeminent NFL factory in the sport.
