COLUMBUS — I started this exercise a few years ago at The Athletic. I’m pretty sure I stole the idea from their talented Philadelphia Phillies beat writer, Matt Gelb. One thought on every scholarship player on the roster heading into the season.
We’ll start with the defense today, position by position. I’ll do offense on Friday.
Defensive tackle
Jarquez Carter (first year): The freshman from Florida definitely turned some heads in his first camp. His name came up a lot. Larry Johnson doesn’t typically rely heavily on freshmen, but it sounds like Carter is going to play as an important piece of the tackle depth this fall. There’s an opportunity for him to be in the top four in terms of snap counts if he keeps ascending.
