COLUMBUS — Double-checked this with Julian Sayin after Ohio State’s 38-14 win over Penn State on Saturday that included a 45-yard deep ball touchdown to Carnell Tate and matching 57-yard deep shots to Tate and Jeremiah Smith.
Could the Buckeyes just throw the ball 50 yards down the field every play if they wanted to?
“Definitely not, definitely not,” Sayin said. “We definitely have to be strategic, and I think our coaches did a great job. … We got some good looks into it today, and if it’s not there we’ve got to check the ball down.”
But … it’s holstered, right?
Ohio State taking a deep shot is like the friend you haven’t talked to for a while, that if you really need them, they’ll be there for you.
Just give the Buckeyes a reason, an opening, an opportunity … and they’re calling Mr. Deep Shot.
