Utmost respect for the turnaround. It makes literally no sense that Cignetti could orchestrate such an ascension from a historically abysmal program, even acknowledging the transformation that the transfer portal has brought upon College Football. I'd never afford a second rival status on the same tier as Michigan, but I do think IU and Oregon are to OSU today what Penn State and Wisconsin/Mich St were over the 2010s

I wish I could vote that I both hate and respect Indiana

I kind of view Indiana football like Wemby and the spurs. They were fun to watch and get behind when they were new. Now that they are established and winning at the highest level, they are a pain in the ass.

One of the few teams where I believe we have a coaching disadvantage. I think they get more from less and are elite talent evaluators. That said, I need to see what it looks like without the #1 overall pick at QB.

I think the jury is still out on whether IU can be competitive over the long haul. The way they have to build their roster I think they are just a portal miss or two from being middle of the pack in the B1G. If they hit on a QB and a couple of key player then they can be competitive but I don’t think it’s the way to build a dynasty-type program. If they prove they can build and develop then I think it might be a different story

For me to consider Indiana a secondary rival, they will have to more consistently swim in the same recruiting waters as Ohio State. It is on the recruiting trail where the budding Oregon rivalry started. That remains to be seen on the Indiana front.

I live in Indiana so I’m a bit biased. I think I resent that people here went from not caring at all to now being sort of arrogant about IU football. The fair weather nature turns me off. So I want to beat the snot out of them to put fans in their place. However, just from a football perspective, impossible to not have immense respect for what they’ve done.

Cignetti is the closest thing to a Hollywood sports movie I have ever seen in real life. The turn around has to be respected. They won a National Championship. Even for the biggest of teams (Ohio State, Georgia, etc.) a National Championship is the pinnacle only reached in rare occasions and brings tremendous respect to that coach and players involved, I cannot view it other than with extreme respect and admiration.

I’d say Penn state had been our 2nd rival for the last 25 yrs. Now with just the Michigan cheating, all their scandals, and us losing 4 straight, that rivalry almost eliminates any room for anyone else. But Oregon would be rival #2 as I don’t respect them that much. Cig can be pompous but I respect him.

But to be frank…. I hate losing to absolutely anyone. So anyone we lose to is rival #2 until we beat them.

I understand why people are choose Oregon as the if there were a "2nd rival," but I don't know. I just don't get the feels from them. Large money cannon that wins regular season games and has a ton of beautiful trees on campus. That's about all I feel towards them.

Granted... I did graduate from both Ohio State and Maryland so maybe I just dislike Penn State a little more than the rest of the fanbase...

Proximity helps Indiana over a school like Oregon. Always good to outshine your neighbors. But I look at Indiana with equal parts bewilderment, respect, and resignation.

Bewilderment on how they turned it around so quickly and not just winning games but the manner they won last year (see Illinois) and winning the title.

Respect to Cig for talking his smack but ultimately backing it up.

And resignation because while I still take a wait and see approach if they can sustain it year over year, I'm annoyed that we may have to accept they are going to be a thorn in our side.

The natty was nice and all, but having Bill name IU as the most worrisome game on the Buckeye schedule followed by Doug feeling compelled to raise this as a topic today . . . that's how we know that IU has _really_ arrived!!

And for anyone who cares about one random IU fan's view of Ohio State -- got very sick of watching you whoop _both_ my teams (ND being the other) for so long, but always had respect for Ohio State as an institution, enjoy Columbus as a destination (go Crew!), and always appreciate OSU carrying the banner for Big Ten football for so long -- there was a point where the conference really would've been irrelevant without you. So don't think of us as a rival -- we're just here to help! You don't have to do it alone anymore! (not gonna talk about ttun)

Last year Indiana exposed a few things that maybe we already thought were a bit of a problem. Kudos to them but they also didn't take anything away except a conference title. I think they'd need to knock us out of the playoff for me to truly hate them.

Hate every loss especially to B1G teams but respect that they won the natty in the way that they did. Not a cig fan and his theatrics but mendoza is as good as they come

It is nice to see a bottom dweller like Indiana come up and become a legit contender (and champion), especially when it is a Big Ten team. But Cignetti annoys me, so it is hard for me to like them because he bugs me too much. So I for one am hoping they get knocked down a peg this year, especially by OSU

I think tOSU MUST win against Indiana this year to stay as the undisputed top team in the Big 10...and I think we will.
