My wife’s birthday is April 1 and she HATES Aprils Fools Day. Needless to say, no pranks or tomfoolery has been had on this date since we got together a decade ago
It’s like every day now with all the AI slop on social media.
But I have to share my best prank. About 5 years ago I posted on social media asking friends to text my brother and ask about the llamas he had for sale. Blocked him from seeing the post. About 40 messages later he called me and asked what did I do. 🤣🤣🤣
I would like to also take credit for chip kelly coming to Ohio state as OC because I texted my dad a fake news article I made on April 1 2021 saying that chip kelly was coming to be Ohio states OC.
My son loves April Fools day. When he was 6, he replaced a bag a skittles with rocks from the back yard. He then re-taped the bag (it was obvious) and was set to give the bag to his 4 year old sister but I thought it was wiser to give it to my wife just so no serious accident occurred. My wife played along and even put one of the rocks in her mouth. The grin on that kids face was from ear to ear. The next year however my wife was less than pleased when he brought her coffee to her full of pepper and she was actually caught off guard!!!
I don’t mind April fools but I think there is a pandemic of people who think they are funny but are not. Good pranks and jokes require planning and thought and for too many people it’s “that what she said” and recycled GIFS.
I too remember fondly the Sid Finch article. It was an enjoyable prank, and the first by a respected media source Tommy knowledge. But just like 11 year old Doug these pranks are appealing when you are new to them. As an adult I have become somewhat of a curmudgeon I suppose. A wry smile is about all i have to give for even the best of these pranks.
When I used to work at the Meijer meat department we used to get bulletins that we had to sign from time to time. So I made a fake one saying that our meat cutters had to fully sanitize their knife between every cut. I was able to get a few of our meat cutters pretty mad before they figured it out
When my stepson was about 8 or 9 years old, he had been asking to go to Kalahari water park for months. It was relentless. We'd get asked at least 5 times a week if we could go. He asked his dad and stepmom all the time, too, so you had this kid bombarding four grown adults about Kalahari.
On April 1st, he had school, but I woke him up and told him his dad was calling the school to tell them he was sick and taking him to Kalahari. He jumped out of bed and started getting his swim trunks on. He was as excited as Christmas morning.
I let this go on for about 20 minutes and he got more and more excited about going. Finally, I told him to go to the front porch and his dad would be there in a minute. He came back inside and said his dad was late. I looked him dead in the eye and said, "April Fool's, sucka!!! Now go get ready for school!"
The deflation was complete and immediate and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
I once had a close family friend convinced we were moving to China a few years back. I had been there 3 times for work over a 9 month span so it logically made sense. He bought it hook line and sinker until he texted me parents and found out
The best part was is this person is the biggest practical jokester I know so it was fun to get him back good.
Otherwise, I could go with out it. My kids enjoy it so that is some joy in seeing them have fun with it.
I wasn’t “on alert” for April Fools day until I read that question. Thanks for the reminder, probably why I hate April Fools Day.

My wife's birthday is Valentine's Day. You can imagine the length of stay in the doghouse if I forgot that one!
😂

I haven’t cared about April Fools Day since I was probably eight but I remember it being fun as a little kid.

No
If you’re over 14 and April Fools’ is still a thing for you, someone needs to smack you upside the head.

I love a good rick-roll on a fake product or something like that but anything that goes too far is asking for trouble

Little Dougie arguing at the lunch table, and the lunch monitor thought "Just another day at that table."
